A cube taken apart
Conceived for gatherings of four to twenty people, the project offers a place to meet in permanent contact with the surroundings, the climate and the landscape. It is a family villa meant to be enjoyed in different ways, where luxury lies not in abundance but in proportion, materials, light and space.
The great family living space occupies the heart of the villa and becomes the gathering place, while the bedrooms are organised on two levels around it.
The villa can be read as the sum of four modules: two below and two above. This arrangement concentrates the wet services on one side and frees the other to create the great double height, with large columns defining the main space. Thinking of the project as a cube, rather than as a plan that simply spreads out, makes it possible to work with the section and to make height an essential part of the experience. “Less is more” is expressed here in a volume seven metres high. Instead of filling the space, we chose to give it breadth and let the scale take the lead.
The materials keep that same simplicity. The project uses honest elements belonging to the region, avoiding unnecessary construction complexity. The 20-centimetre block, the joinery, the masonry and the metalwork are resolved mainly with local labour and, in some cases, fabricated on site. This way of building is not only a practical decision; it is part of the architecture. Working with the resources, the materials and the trades available on site lets the project truly belong to its surroundings.
The result is a restrained architecture in which every element has a reason to be there. A simple volume taken apart to create different scales, paths and ways of being together; a villa where space, light and landscape are the real luxuries.
